Byungwon Lim, violin Byungwon Lim, violin

Violinist Byungwon Lim was born in Korea in 1960. He first began his music studies with his father, Woo-Sang Lim, who was a famous and respected composer in Korea. He graduated with a B.A. and a M.M. from the prestigious Seoul National University, where he was the concertmaster of the Seoul Youth Orchestra. He later studied in the USA with Prof. Young-Gu Ahn, at the Peabody Conservatory where he earned a G.P.D., while pursuing additional studies with Prof. Stewart Canin at the Music Academy of the West. Lim was a member of the Seoul Chamber Orchestra and the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra (K.B.S). In 1988 he joined the faculty of KyungSung University. He has been extremely active in leading the chamber music scene in the city of Busan, both as a leader of the Muse String Quartet, as well as the founder of the Busan chamber orchestra. As a soloist, he has played several concertos with orchestras such as the Seoul Chamber Orchestra, the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Daegu Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pohang Philharmonic Orchestra, the Korean Chamber Orchestra and the Busan Symphony Orchestra. He has given a number of solo recitals in U.S.A., Europe and Korea in prestigious venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall (1997) and in Rome, at the Rome National Summer Music Festival (2001). He has recorded a solo album of all Brahms violin sonatas, and, in 2004, he was selected by the Busan Music Association to be the recipient of the Busan Music Award. Currently, Lim is a violin professor at KyungSung University, while keeping a busy orchestral career as a concertmaster of both the Busan Symphony Orchestra and the Pohang Philharmonic Orchestra.
